Yellow
Yellow is the color of gold, butter, or ripe lemons. It is within the spectrum of visible light, with a wavelength of 570-590 nm (525-505 THz.) The word yellow comes from the Old English word geolu, geolwe, meaning "yellow, or yellowish." It was derived from the Proto-Germanic word gelwaz. Some define it as the best color of the color spectrum, as it is said to cascade the light causing shimmering, golden glimmers of awesomeness. It is a color that shows happiness, warmth, compassion, kindness, friendliness, and love. One of the original origins of yellow dyes was turmeric, which is used in Southeast Asian cooking, as a medicine, and a dye for the robes of Buddhist monks,

The Southern Magnolia
Magnolia grandiflora, commonly known as the southern magnolia or bull bay, is a tree of the family Magnoliaceae native to the southeastern United States, fromVirginia south to central Florida, and west to eastern Texas and Oklahoma. Some trees have been viewed as far west as New Mexico and California. Reaching 27.5 m (90 ft) in height, it is a large striking evergreen tree with large dark green leaves and large white fragrant flowers. Widely cultivated around the world, over a hundred cultivars have been bred and marketed commercially. The timber is hard and heavy, and has been used commercially to make furniture, pallets, and veneer. (Wikipedia)

Dasani Water Tent
Here you can see a grid arrangement of iPhone cases. The way they are arranged forms a pattern of colors. This was found at the Dasani promotional tent in front of Stetson Hall.

Gestalt Logo
This logo from Mosleep is a favorite of mine. It uses gestalt imagery to create a bed with pillows in a quite clever way.

Focal Point
Focal point is important in photos and artwork. It helps the viewer focus in on what is important in the image. The iris blur in this image isolates the statue of Jesse Mercer in the center and makes it the point of attention.

Poster Design
The poster for the movie "Jaws" is very well designed. First, it centers the attention of the viewer with the black box around the centered picture. It also employs the use of perspective to show the relative size of a human to the size of the shark that the characters take on in the movie.

"Objectified"
My favorite designer from the movie "Objectified" is Dieter Rams. He is a German from Weisbaden, Hessen and has worked for Braun for a number of years. He designed this radio, as well as many other functional objects such as turntables, shelves, and scales.

Commercial Artwork
This is not a normal example of repetition as we have studied in class; it doesn't use the repetition of an object to form a larger picture. It does, however, use repetition to convey a message: that everyone should drive a VW. Another important feature of this advertisement artwork is that is employs the use of a far perspective.

Gestalt in Action
In the Mirabell Gardens in Salzburg, Austria, the flowers are arranged in patterns representing a form of gestalt imagery. The flowers are arranged in no specific configuration to form recognizable objects but more to create a pattern that follows the shape of the gardens. I took the top picture in 2007.

Gestalt
Gestalt images are a unique form of artwork that take advantage of the way the human brain recognizes and processes what the eyes actually "see." They almost always consist of smaller shapes that are arranged into a specific pattern, which in turn forms a larger shape or form that the eye recognizes.

Nature-Inspired Design
Design can come from multiple sources of inspiration. This treehouse design comes most likely from a cocoon on a tree branch. The curved design of the construction resembles that of something organic, like a pod.

What is design?
There are many critical components of design. One cannot simply describe what design is in a single phrase as in the dictionary. Real design can be considered as a form of art, with a certain aesthetic that the designer wishes to convey. For example, these watches use a specific symmetry of colors and shapes, as well as unique types of indicators to display the time. The form of the hands in these watches are quite diverse, but they all have the exact same function. Despite this functional similarity, each watch has a uniquely different aesthetic to its design.
